Why this workflow matters
United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) enforces strict upload size caps (typically 6MB for photos/scans and 12MB for multi-page document packets on myUSCIS online accounts). When filing Form N-400 (Naturalization), I-130 (Petition for Alien Relative), I-485 (Adjustment of Status), or I-765 (Employment Authorization), oversized scans are rejected immediately by the portal. PdfPixels Compress PDF enables US immigration filers and attorneys to shrink evidence bundles under official USCIS thresholds while maintaining the 300 DPI text clarity demanded by immigration adjudicators.
Who this is for
- USCIS petitioners and green card applicants filing forms online via myUSCIS
- Immigration attorneys, paralegals, and legal clinics preparing Form N-400 and I-130 exhibit packets

Practical tips
- USCIS requires all evidence to be English or accompanied by a certified English translation; compress both into a single document before uploading.
- Do not compress below 150 DPI for foreign civil certificates containing fine micro-text or watermarks.
- If your document has many color photos, choose our High or Recommended compression to strip redundant image metadata without compromising clarity.
Common problems
myUSCIS portal throws error "File size exceeds maximum allowed"
Check file size before upload; ensure the total bundle is under 6MB (or 12MB depending on form type) and re-compress if necessary.
Notary seals or signatures look pixelated after extreme compression
Use Recommended compression rather than Extreme, or flatten vector streams first to preserve linework.
FAQ
What is the maximum file size for USCIS online uploads?
Most USCIS online forms enforce a 6MB limit per file, while certain multi-page exhibit slots allow up to 12MB. Keeping files between 2MB and 5MB guarantees reliable submission.
Will USCIS reject a compressed PDF?
No, provided the text, dates, official seals, and signatures remain clearly readable and searchable. PdfPixels optimizes image downsampling without blurring text.
